This weekend will see a number of firsts for us at Across the Park as we make the journey to Carlisle for the Fourth Round. It’s the first time we will see a Premiership Club on our travels, it’s the first time we get to see Carlisle at Brunton Park and for you, the readers, it’s the first time you will read a piece on site that follows up from the last round, which comes in the shape of an interview with Jimmy Glass.
First and foremost, we’d like to thank everyone that took the time to read our last pieces on the Third Round. (Here and here). It was by far the best response we’ve had so far, and it made all our hard work seem worthwhile. In terms of continuity – with regard to the last article on Carlisle and the fact we like to do a piece on the club before the game – we are honoured to say that we caught up with Carlisle’s cult hero Jimmy Glass. Jimmy kindly took the time to answer our questions on a number of things, including that goal against Plymouth at the turn of the century. Here is what Jimmy had to say:

Another weekend, another FA Cup round over and done with. The famed first round proper has passed us by and it was full of all the excitement that we see year on year: big scores, exciting ties, and – most importantly – more famous upsets. As a number of non-league clubs set up for the weekend, they knew they had nothing to lose and these were fixtures that could make heroes and write headlines on the back pages of national newspapers.
One such club was Maidenhead United. Having been drawn against League One Port Vale, they knew they would have to climb mountains if they were to reach the second round. But with every challenge, there is an end point, and if you plug away, you get the results you deserve. So when James Mullery’s effort in the 94th minute resulted in an equalizer for the National League South, Maidenhead got the home replay the deserved. Jubilation ensued and the players, coaching staff and fans celebrated a famous result.
