And so we reach the end of the Qualifying Rounds, the minnows have been thinned out and we await the inclusion of teams from the Football League. As ever, our Road to Wembley continues to see who can take that step closer to the national stadium in May…
Brackley Town 3-3 Billericay Town
This game had all the ingredients of a classic FA Tie with goals in the first and last five minutes and a red card before half time leaving Brackley playing with 10 men.
Brackley dominated the first half and scored very early on after some sloppy defending from Billericay with a simple header from Aaron Williams. The 45th minute red card for Brackley’s Alex Gudger was turning point.
Adam Cunnington of Billericay equalised within moments of the second half starting through far post header. Billericay then took a 71st minute lead when (substitute) Louis Theophanous finished after good assist by the other substitute Sam Deering, Again Brackley fought back and equalised with a good goal by Adam Walker. Billericay to the lead in the 77th minutes with Cunnington’s second goal heading into the bottom corner from Deering’s cross.
In the dying moments Shane Byrne struck in (89th minute) for Brackley to send the tie to a replay on Tuesday evening. In summary both sides deserved the replay after an exhilarating and entertaining second half of an enthralling cup tie. This was a great advertisement for non-league football.
